What does Rainforest Alliance certification mean?

The Rainforest Alliance is an international, non-profit environmental and sustainable development organisation. Its mission? To protect ecosystems and the people and wildlife that depend on them.

A winning relationship

As part of Unilever’s commitment to ethical sourcing of tea, we’ve joined forces with the Rainforest Alliance to promote sustainable farming practices across the tea industry globally, creating a better livelihood for producers and protecting the environment.

We have our own tea estate in Kericho, Kenya, which employs, looks after and provides free housing for 15,000 tea pickers and 60,000 of their dependents – it’s the first tea estate to become Rainforest Alliance Certified™.
